Emerging Lantern Artwork Materials: photocopy, collaged papers, papyrus, sheet music, tealight, yarn The lantern started out life as an image of Egypt provided by one of the artists who has spent a lot of time in that country. Evoking imagery of pyramids and hues of bright blue, the responses evolved through collages of triangular shapes to the final lantern, complete with black tassels and a hidden candle. |
The final artist to work on the piece wrote:
'Here's my addition. I was thinking about how the original picture reminded me of Morocco, in particular the blues. The addition of the texture reminded me of lamps - so I made a simple lamp, with a battery powered tea light inside. I then started thinking of ‘This Little Light of Mine’ so printed and included the music and lyrics. I know it from Sunday school as a child, but was pleased to hear it is also a song of protest in America.' |
