Sindy's Apartment Materials: cardboard box, photocopy, coloured pencil, felt pen, fabric, ribbon, tassel, thread Sindy's Apartment was initially inspired by an image of artist Anni Albers' unfinished rug design. The final result was a collection of design options contained within an 'apartment box', with all the artists in agreement that there had been something comforting derived from reminiscing about childhood during the chaos of lockdown. |
The original Albers image evoked feelings of nostalgia and memories of 1970s patterned floor coverings, leading to the creation of a carpet sample book that was just the right size for Sindy. The artist reflected on a time in childhood spent searching for everyday items that were Sindy sized and that could be incorporated into Sindy's small world. |
